anyone ad any experience rebuilding a series 2 VN V6? I will be commencing one on mine in 3 weeks or so...just a refresher at this stage.... would like to know if any mild mods should be avoided?
Not planning on dropping a cam at this stage, considering some mild head work...coz i need it as a daily driver and require a substancial reliabilty factor...
Any suggestions would be great...

I believe just near the throttle body, not sure where to say but i can opint it out, there is a small piece of black plastic in a lot of later model ecotec engines. I know for certain that it's not on the series 1 VN and think it might be in the series 2. You'll see where it is. Look along the air intake and jsut before it enters the manifold there'll be a small gasket and a piece of black plastic then another gasket. Unbolt around it and make sure that black plastic comes out.
It was put in to cut down the air intake and therefore the power of the engine after some complaints about how easy it was to break traction.

I am aware of it and since it is a VP engine I will be removing it. I am considering having the throttle body bored out to 66mm (from an original 60mm) but some say it is interchangable and cheaper to just grap a V8 throttle body for around $90 and already has a ID of 65mm....But suggestions indicate that the Air idle control valve needs to be renewed or replaced wth the V6's one.... Anyone know if this has been done before?
Anyone selling V6 extractors?

It's like a 'funnel' that is bolted between the inlet manifold and the throttle body adapter. VN Series 2, VP and VR have. VS onwards with the ECOTEC don't have it.
With the V8 throttle body, I've never done it but apparently it's a straight bolt-on and sensor on the throttle body are all the same between V6 and V8.

VP 3800 V6 Engine in a VN.
I guess it was taken out before I bought it...

I believe it's the series 2 engine, someone on another message board told me the series 2 VP engine has the top water hose connected to the front of the engine.
Where is this thing supposed to be, I've checked up and down the intake manifold from air filter to throttle body.. Is it visible from outside the area it is in? or must I take stuff off to find it.
Someone copy this and put a "RIGHT HERE" where it is...
Air filter
-
Long thick filter hose
-
Long thick filter hose curves to the left toward engine block
-
Attaches to body of metal with 4 large bolts in it
-
This then attaches to what I believe is the throttle body.
(If I sound like a nimrod, it's because I've been working with old fords my entire career of amature mechanic and I haven't managed to find my way around the 3800 V6 in the 2 days I've owned it)

I think it's been said many times before, why dont you get a Gregorys Manual, read it, then you'll know where most stuff is
This is mine anyway, I'm pretty sure its the same engine. The arrow indicates the throttle body, unless i'm wrong (please correct me if I am, its late and I'm tired) the throttle body is the thing under the little thingy that the accelerator cable is joined to (opposite end to pedal of course)

I do have a gregory's manual. Just couldn't be *censored* looking up the actual names for the parts I'm pointing to.
I do believe that is the throttle body. It's in there?
Also, thanks for trying to be helpful and not just picking shit at me like you are in every other topic I've posted in.

Yeah you'd be right.
I found out last night at around 2am while looking for it that it's missing.
I also found a spot in the Gregory's that describes it and where it is.
So I my mind wasn't f**king me around, it really isn't there.
Now I wonder what the engine would feel like with it in...

From what I've heard it's just a minor decrease in response but it still goes like a zirtech and is much smoother.
Considering how rough mine goes at the moment, a little more smoothness would be nice.
But with the exhaust that's on it I don't know if it will matter...
I'm gonna go outside and turn it on just to hear it..
