Hi guys,

Just wondering if any suspension mods are required to fit bigger wheels to a 85 VK, i was thinking something along the lines of 17x8's or similar and do the VK calais have LSD's fitted? Also have any of you heard about the power gains associated with removing the mechanical radiator fan and replacing it with an electronic job?

Cheers

Hey mate, 17 by 8"s should fit fine under a VK, the widest I've had is 7.5, but I know people that have had 8"s and its been ok. If your car is lowered and you don't have an adjustable panhard rod you might need to get one to make sure everything is centred properly though. Otherwise it might scrub.

I've heard good things about power gains by replacing the mechanical fan with an electric. I haven't ever done the swap myself, but I've had a VH with a thermo fan and 2 with clutch fans. I replaced a small thermo on my VH with new AU XR8 thermos, and put in a davies craig electric fan controller which switches it on when your coolant gets to a certain temperature. These were pretty easy to install, theres wiring diagrams in the pack with the controller, and it kept my 355 nice and cool in the QLD summers.
