I have had a problem with engine light (error code) flickering for a while and since it has started doing it I notice it has retarded performance a bit.Probably it is picking up a bad read from a sensor and changing timing.

Now ,I notice my cat has blocked prematurely and exhaust guy reckons the wear on cat shows that gases are getting too "hot".

Anyone have any similar experience?I suspect a faulty sensor but don"t know where to start.Engine in good condition otherwise with 160k.Have owned the car since new.

You could do a check of the error codes that the computer has logged to determine which sensor is faulty, that's where I would start personally. It is very easy to do and if you need info on how to do it send me an email to autofix@aapt.net.au and I'll guide you through it. This might help explain the 'too hot' exhaust gases.
