I’ve been out of this scene for too long, but it’s time to resurrect the Beast, as we used to call it in the late ‘70s… but it’s also time for some updating. It’s a 1971 HQ One Tonner, and as I recall it the stud pattern is 5 on 4.5”. Now it’s had some bodywork done to fit in some sizeable tyres, but the custom Delta wheels are rusty and need to be replaced (as I’m expecting they can’t be re-chromed to any sort of high standard).

My problem is, nobody makes alloy wheels in large diameter (if at all) with a 5 on 4.5” stud pattern any more (I think)… so what do I do? Now the front tyres on this are 31” tall x 10” wide, and the rears are 33.5” x 12.5”… from my off-roading days. So I’d like street tyres with similar external dimensions, presumably on wheels with diameter 20” or greater. It sort of matches up to 265/ 50 x 20 front and 325/50 x 20 rear.

I’ve been to car shows and seen that people have overcome this dilemma, but I haven’t kept up with the custom car game for the last 20 years. Please get me into the 21st century!

Front end is original HQ, rear is a disc-to-disc Dana 70 with 1” spacers, and possibly a non-HQ stud pattern on the spacers… can’t remember. Your suggestions and recommendations would be appreciated.

I’m not averse to fitting up different discs/rotors/hubs, whatever it takes to do a good job. Kind of keen on big brakes anyway.

Mate please don't butcher up a pristine looking HQ with20 inch rims.I bl**dy hate this bling factor that all these late model cars have succummed to.But I know how you feel inregards to finding rims but ROH have a large variety,there made in OZ and can be made to suit any wheel stud diameter thou apart from one design being 15 inch most the others are 16 upwards which I reckon is still to big for an old classic.Can't wait till this fad passes away and everyone goes back to having big fat rubber on the wheels instead of all that metal just asking for kerb damage. :evil:
